New Years Here.

So, it has been sometime since I've posted anything here; not because I've been overly busy, but mainly do to the fact that I forgot I had a Blog. :) Here's one of my most recent paintings. Acrylic on canvas. Hope you enjoy.

Holiday Painting.

As ever artist should, I've been painting for holiday gift giving. I've also been painting to fill the down time here at the shop. Business tends to dissipate during the time of the year when hazardous driving conditions find their ways between the tattoo-ees and the tattoo-ers. Regardless, here is a painting fresh from the brush. I approached this one from outside of my typical methods; softer brush strokes, a wider variety of blending, etc. I purposely enlarged the head to give myself the notion that I was still in control while figuring out these different techniques. Hope you enjoy.

The Sexy Mermaid.

I was interested in painting something a little outside of what I normally do, whatever that may be. Acrylics and ceiling tile once again. I really enjoyed doing the bubbles, free-hand, along the outside edges of the mermaid. I'm not entirely satisfied with the shading throughout the hair, it's a little too aggressive. Enjoy!

Thursday, November 18, 2010 screw in a lightbulb?

I've used acrylics before, and enjoyed using them, but I've never fully appreciated the medium before this painting. I came across the idea for the composition while flipping through an issue of Juxtapoz. "I paid the light bill so I could see your beautiful face.", was the small caption on the bottom of an advertisement; graffiti surrounded the lettering. I thought the caption was rather ingenious. I laid out a design and began painting. I was limited in the mediums I could use, considering my canvas was a ceiling tile. I considered working in watercolors, seeing as how I've used it before on this type of canvas, but grabbed the tubes of acrylic instead. All together the painting took about 4-5 hours to finish.
